Coming straight out of Yorkshire with a back catalogue that would have some house producers drowning their wax in hot tears, Simon Baker is a bastion of 2020 Vision's refinement and quality control. Leaving Leeds's vibrant house collectives behind for the new and vast frontier offered by the capital, Simon Baker appears in London at Hidden on the 9th of March - for the collision between house and bass music.
Simon Baker's production has enthralled heads for years, and his universally acclaimed debut LP 'Traces' last year only deepened the obsession. A myriadic ooze of house and techno influences, Baker refracted his visceral deep house sound through a timeless and elemental lens and dazzled his listener with the absorbing journey through shades and styles of house.
Championing one of the most athletic tracks from his sublime 2011 LP, his latest 2020 release 'Let Me In' is a deeply sexy rhythm slinking along on percussion to stir the loins and circus-style synths to intrigue the mind.
This is one of a few tracks from the album to feature the elevated, sexual vocals of Debukas, and the playful groove of this original album version is definitely worth a listen for anyone who likes their house glistening and irresistible. Flanked by a Lee Curtis remix soaked in syncopated Latino vibes and dazzling disco energy, it is very pleasing to see the Baker deploying his solid production in 12" form.
Baker will be making further appearances on some outstanding imprints in 2012 with releases on Get Physical, Leftroom, and with the legendary Robert James for singles on Hot Creations and Saved, and his finesse for grappling with the finer sides of house and techno has seen him booked in exotic locales such as the BPM festival in Mexico, Kehakuma at Space in Ibiza, Miami, Paris and Barcelona.
But in the year that Baker made the capital his home, London is thrilled to bring this earth-trembling talent to town.
