Red Bull Music Academy and Deadly People join forces to present new night Discoclash, coming to East Village on Thursday 1st March. Born after some serious banter between dub-lord Skream and boogie/instru-hip-hop protagonist Krystal Klear, the party sees some bass heavyweights relieve the subs for a night to lay down some more funky jams. With Skream having played the odd disco set for fun, new kid on the block Krystal Klear piped-up and laid down the challenge, offering to show Croydon’s finest just how its done. Teaming up with Manchester hero and Hoya:Hoya fav Jon K plus very special secret guest tba, the love in marks the first party of the Red Bull Music Academy application phase.
When Krystal Klear arrived in a blaze of boogie in 2010, with three stunning releases in quick succession (on Cooly G’s Dub Organiser label, All City and the debut Hoya:Hoya record), the scene didn’t quite know what had just hit it. Working hard and picking up fans along the way, with support and love coming from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs and Hudson Mohawke, KK ended 2011 being selected to attend Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid.
Hoya:Hoya teammate Jon K, with a firm finger on the pulse, remains as important a figure on the Manchester scene as has been for the past decade. Founder of legendary night Eyes Down and resident at Friends & Family, Jon K has been educating his dancefloors for years.
The Manchester duo line-up against South London’s Skream - a man who has blown countless clubs and festival stages apart with his explosive sets. One of dubstep's first and most prominent producers, he continues to chart the path of the genre’s world domination, whether from behind the decks, as part of supergroup Magnetic Man or on the airwaves of BBC Radio 1.
