Heading to the Michael Mayer gig at a warehouse in Southwark on Saturday I was excited but had no idea quite how amazing the night would turn out but once I got in I became SPEECHLESS EMOTIONAL PURITY OF SOUND THE MOST INCREDIBLE NIGHT IN YEARS THE MUSIC THE SPACE THE PEOPLE I HAD BEEN TRANSPORTED TO BERLIN A TIME WHEN THE KEY INGREDIENTS THE MUSIC NO GIMMICKS JUST RAW PURE TALENT SUBTLE DEEP HOUSE DEEP TECHNO TO COAX YOU IN TO THE EIGHT HOUR SET OVER-LAPPING INTELLIGENTLY CONSTRUCTED BEATS GATHERED MOMENTUM THEN EXPLODED LAYERS AND LAYERS OF SOUND DUBBED OUT REVERBERATED SPACE AND ECHOES CLEANNESS CHEEKS HURTING FROM SMILING SO MUCH TECHNO PURE AND SIMPLE TECHNO TO TRANSPORT YOU TO SOME OTHER PLACE TO GO PHILOSOPHICAL ON IT A PLANE OF EMINENCE C/O DELEUZE AND GUATTARI TRANSCENDENCE ON AND ON HE TOYED WITH PLAYED WITH TEASED IT COULDN’T GET BETTER BUT THEN ALWAYS THE NEXT TRACK WAS PERFECT AND THE NEXT ONE AND THEN THE ONE AFTER THAT SO SIMPLE AND YET SO COMPLEX SEAMLESS AND YET TRAVELLED AND PUSHED YOU IN SO MANY DIRECTIONS MOMENTS OF PEACE A VOCAL SNIPPET MGMT KIDS MORPHED OUT AND ONLY SLIGHTLY RECOGNISABLE FOALS OLYMPIC AIRWAYS SUPERMAYER MIX NICOLAS STEFAN CLOSER IMPECCABLE PRODUCTION VINYL ALL NIGHT LONG ONE LASER A SMOKE MACHINE TOO COLD TO NOT DANCE WITHOUT A HOODY SPATIAL PERFECTION LUSH TOO MANY MOMENTS WHERE TEARS SEEMED READY TO BURST THE SHEER BRILLIANCE OF THE SOUND AND HIM MAYER IS GOD HE REINVIGORATED A SOUND MADE SOMETHING NEW A PRO MUST BOW DOWN TO…. and then finally as I left I regained the ability to breath and the thousands of thoughts that had been bouncing inside my head with the beat, because of the beat, started to return to sentences.  I managed to say to my friends that, that was one of the top three sets I have ever heard.  If I could I would spend not a night but many with the supremely talented Michael Mayer.
