London's longstanding party and DJ duo Secretsundaze have unveiled 'Dance 2 Sustain' a new green initiative and sustainability framework that will seek to reduce waste and offset carbon emissions across the organisation.
Among the major changes taking place are replacing all single-use plastic cups at their events with paper alternatives as well as providing custom made bins for the correct disposal and recycling of these. In relation to travel, they will offset all flights booked by and for Secretsundaze through Clean Scene and where possible they will use Green Tomato Cars for any ground transport that can't be serviced by train.
With food becoming an increasingly important part of their day parties, they have taken the decision to ban red meat and working exclusively with vendors who responsibly and locally source their produce.
To help facilitate these revisions and to try to foster a sense of collective responsibility, Secretsundaze are introducing a £1 'Green Tax' to all attendees. Any remaining money raised via the Green Tax will be donated to their charity partner Possible, a local organisation inspiring climate action.
Speaking on the initative Secretsundaze co-founder, James Priestley, said: "It’s become impossible not to stand up and take action against this urgent climate crisis. Working across various venues comes with it’s own set of challenges, but hopefully in the near future some of the methods we’re introducing will be standard across the industry. Whilst Dance 2 Sustain will ensure our activity is less environmentally damaging, we’re more hopeful that the message will help inspire individuals and other businesses to make the changes they can to alleviate the devastating problems the planet faces."
With Dance 2 Sustain being in its formative stages, Seretsundaze are welcoming comments, thoughts, suggestions and ideas to develop the initiative.
On top of this comprehensive and ambitious framework, Secretsundaze have also announced the line ups for their March-June programme which brings together local and international selectors for day parties at several venues across London. Full line-up information below...
